Golden Visa Portugal – Requirements
The Golden Visa is a residence permit for third country nationals who make economic investments in Portugal. It allows them to live, work and move freely within the Schengen Area, and acts as a gateway to Portugal and Europe.
Since October 2023, the purchase of real estate is no longer eligible for new applications. The program is now valid for strategic investments in the economy, culture, science and employment.
Eligible investments:
- Venture capital and investment funds: minimum of €500,000, with at least 60% in Portuguese companies.
- Commercial company: €500,000 to create or strengthen a company, creating 5 permanent jobs or maintaining 10 jobs (5 permanent).
- Cultural project: investment of €250,000 in projects certified by the Ministry of Culture.
- Job creation: at least 10 new jobs.
- Scientific research: €500,000 in government-certified projects.
Note: Investments in areas of low population density benefit from a 20% reduction in the minimum values.
Requirements and conditions:
- Maintain the investment for at least 5 years.
- Stay in Portugal for at least 7 days a year.
- No criminal convictions, restrictions in the Schengen system or public security reasons.
Despite the changes to the legislation, the Golden Visa scheme is still in force and new applications can still be made.
